Since I do so much moving nowadays, I figure I'm basically a pro, and should share my insights with the public about how to do it right.
You will need the following things:
1. Boxes. For obvious reasons. Now, if you have an undesirable circumstance in your old place, for example, oh I don't know...cockroaches, perhaps, these should be brand new boxes to avoid bringing the problem with you.
2. A good marker. Also obvious. It's nice to know what's in those boxes once they start to pile up. Unless you pack like me and have a box filled with sheet music, candles, markers, and a hat. Then good luck.
3. A tool kit. You know all those things you do while you live at place? Like hanging drapes and curtains, putting up shelves and pictures, constructing new furniture and stuff? Yeah, at some point those things need to come down/apart, and without tools, it's sucky work.
4. Patience. Moving sucks. It's stressful, has you feeling like you're living out of a suitcase for awhile, and screws up your daily routine. Just remember that all that stuff that looks like it has no end actually does. It has to. Eventually.
5. Friends. These fine people will help you reconstruct boxes, fill them, label them and load them into your car. Or at least watch you while you do it yourself. Company is NOT overrated whilst moving. It keeps you sane.
*addendum to number 5 - I pay in beer and pizza. It creates incentive when you have a particularly heavy furniture item that may otherwise cause a rift in your friendship.
6. Miscellaneous items. If you are moving under special circumstances, like I am, I recommend Febreze Extra Strength, lots and lots of detergent to wash all of your things that now smell like smoke, and a game plan on how to get all that laundry done.
So that's the list.
Oh, and the pens won today and Dupers scored the game-winning shootout goal. Way to shake things up in the SO, Disco Dan!
